FAQs

Registration/Fundraising-

How much will it cost me to ride?
Every participant must pay $150.00 entry fee before September 10th, 2008 in order to be assured a bib number for the Ride. After Sept. 10th, the entry fee is $250.00. PLEASE try to avoid day-of registration!

Can I pay my entry fee by acquiring pledges?
If you want to register online, you must pay your entry fee via credit card, up front. If you cannot pay the entry up front and would like to acquire pledges to pay it, you must register through the mail. You may have checks sent in your name to the Kelly Brush Foundation or you may gather the checks yourself and send them all in at once. We will notify you via email when your entry fee is paid in full. You will then have the ability to create your personal fundraising page if you would like to continue to raise funds online.

Can I pay via check?
Yes, you may pay your entry fee with a check, but you must print a Registration Form and mail the form in with your check. IF YOU REGISTER ONLINE, YOU MUST PAY WITH A CREDIT CARD!

My friend doesn't use the internet, can he/she register through the mail?
Yes, print a Registration Form and send it to:
Kelly Brush Foundation, 7 Aspen Dr. South Burlington, VT 05403

How do I go about fundraising?
There are two options for fundraising:

  1. Register online and create your own fundraising page which may include 2-3 photos of your choice, a personal message, up-to-date information on your fundraising goal, and a list of who has donated. The site also allows you to email your personal page to friends and family.
  2. Do it the old fashioned way and collect pledges on your own. Print the Donation Form and complete it as you go. When you have reached your goal, send it to: Kelly Brush Foundation, 7 Aspen Dr. South Burlington, VT 05403 with the checks included.

How do I know how much money has been donated to my team?
If you registered online and created your own fundraising page, your donations will be updated instantly when someone donates to you. If you decide to raise money through the mail and have your checks sent directly to the Kelly Brush Foundation, you can call us to find out (802-846-5298). Otherwise, we will let you know after the ride has concluded.

What happens if no one donates to me before the ride date?
The fundraising pages and the century ride website will remain active for three months after the ride. If your friends and family are a little slow to donate, they will still have the ability for three months after September 13th, 2008.

Preparing for the Ride-

What should I bring?
Bike, bike helmet, bike shoes (if you have them), water bottle, sunscreen, enough clothes for all types of weather, all checks and donation forms that haven't already been mailed in.

Do I need to bring my own food and water?
We will provide food and drinks at the start, at the 25, 50, and 75 mile markers, and at the post-ride BBQ from 3-6pm. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BRING YOUR OWN FOOD AND WATER!

How do I get to the start/finish?
Visit the Directions page to find directions to the Middlebury College Football Stadium.

Can I bring donation checks and cash to the ride?
Yes. If you have checks and cash, please bring it along with your donation form, in a secure and clearly labeled envelop.

What can I do to prepare for the ride?
No matter how much you plan to ride, training is very important! The 25/75 mile water stop will only be available until 3pm on the day of the ride. If you think you will not make it 75 miles before that time, please elect to ride only 50 miles.

No matter how much or how often, you just need to ride! Your body needs to get used being on your bike (your rear end!) It is suggested that everyone try to ride half of what they plan to ride at least two times before September 13th.

The Day of the Ride-

What happens if it rains?
The ride goes on. Please bring clothes appropriate for any and all weather conditions.

Where do I park?
Parking will be at the Middlebury College football stadium. There will be parking attendants in the morning to help direct cars.

Is it a race?
The Century Ride is NOT a race. You may ride as fast as you want, but there will be no prize for the first finisher. We want to encourage everyone to ride for fun and enjoy the day!

Are there bike mechanics available in case I get a flat tire or have trouble with my bike?
Yes, there will be at least two bike mechanic vans patrolling the route to help riders with bike troubles. However, we strongly recommend that everyone have your bike tuned up before the ride to avoid any disasters!

What is the ride like?
Visit the Route page to get a description of the 50 mile loop and to see a map of the ride.

What kind of roads will I be riding on?
All the roads are paved, although some may be a bit rougher than others. In terms of traffic flow, almost the entire route consists of back Vermont roads and there will be few cars and even fewer big trucks.

What happens if I get lost?
The entire route will be marked with arrows and signs to make sure you find your way. We will also hand out a route map for everyone to keep on them at all times. If you get lost, the map will lead you back to the route. Lastly, we will be checking riders in using their bib number. If your bib number does not get checked in, we will go looking for you.

If I only ride 25 miles, how do I get from the water stop back to my car?
You must organize your own rides to and from the water stop. We will not be able to provide transportation.

How do I coordinate my team if we are each riding 25miles?
Each team is responsible for organizing their own rides to and from the water stop. Please do this before the ride starts!
